Cinco de Mayo

ok...
so let's get something straight about this so called Mexican holiday that Americans LOVE to celebrate.
It's NOT a holiday in Mexico. Most of my friends in Mexico do absolutely nothing on this day. No partying, no tequila... NADA.
So what is the 5th of May? Why the big deal?
Well, honestly, I think us Americans like to use any excuse we can to get a party going ....
And that's all well and good, but let's get our facts straight.
Most people think that May 5 is Independence Day for Mexico. WRONG... actually it's September 15. Write that down.
This is what happened on May 5, 1862: 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 soldiers at Puebla, Mexico.  The Mexicans had won a great victory that kept Napoleon III from supplying the confederate rebels for another year, allowing the United States to build the greatest army the world had ever seen. This grand army smashed the Confederates at Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War.
That's the short little story on Cinco de Mayo.
SHOUT out to all my amigos in México. Te quiero mucho!!
